Boston University will screen “Absolutely Safe,” a documentary examining breast implant safety and the role of beauty, on Friday, March 28.

A Q&A with the director, Carol Ciancutti-Leyva, will follow.

From the film’s synopsis:

At a time when more women than ever are getting breast implants, fewer voices than ever seem to be asking “Why?” And fewer still are asking “Are they safe?” ABSOLUTELY SAFE takes an open-minded, personal approach to the controversy over breast implant safety. Ultimately, ABSOLUTELY SAFE is the story of everyday women who find themselves and their breasts in the tangled and confusing intersection of health, money, science, and beauty.

OBOS Executive Director Judy Norsigian has high praise for the documentary, calling it “the perfect antidote to ads and TV shows that now routinely mislead women into thinking that these devices have been proven to be safe.” You can read reviews here.

And check out the rest of the website, which is among the best film websites I’ve seen in terms of presentation and issue information. The implant controversy is covered in-depth, and there are numerous resources and links for more background identified in each section.

The free film screening at BU starts at 6:30 p.m. and takes place in Sargent College Room 101, 635 Commonwealth Avenue. It’s sponsored by Every Person Counts.

“Absolutely Safe” has been shown on college campuses and in cities around the country. If you’re interested in organizing a screening, contact info AT absolutelysafe.com.

  1. After they are finished that level they’ll have to create one for the younger set. It’s scary when 13 year olds are saving up money for boob jobs.

  2. I never understood the desire to have implants. It is just like hair girls with curly want straight; girls with straight want curly.

  3. THE DANGER OF SILICONE BREAST IMPLANTS

I am completely against silicone breast implants. Women have been brainwashed into accepting that having big boobs is the same as being sexy.

Millions of women are now squandering thousands of dollars stuffing themselves with carcinogenic implants that would damage their breasts, kidney and liver in the future.

I have a friend who told me her mom is gravely sick and may die.

When I asked why, she said that her mom had some implants done 25 yrs ago, and now all her vital organs including the liver and kidney are infected and cancerous and any day may be her last because there is nothing that is helping her.

I felt bad about this and that is why I am urging all women: stop upgrading your chests.

Some of the illnesses women who had breast implants or argumentation have reported suffering from include: rashes, open sores leaking silicone, hair loss, memory loss, mental confusion, muscle weakness, and local and regional infections, lupus, fibromylagia, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and others.

More than 190,000 problems from breast implants have been officially reported to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to a new consumer booklet that the FDA has published on its website. The reports included 123 deaths.

There is more to beauty and sexiness than big boobs.

Why not try upgrading your brains, intellect, good manners, charm character and mind.

What good is huge boobs owned by a woman with bad character or who is dumb?

There are so many things that make a woman beautiful, sexy and delicious. Try upgrading them. There are some men who like small boobs too, (eventhough I am not one of them)… he he he.

I am against anything that endangers women because they bring all of us into this world and their safety should be the concern of all. Where are all the feminists in the world?

Why are there no national and worldwide outcry against this health hazard? Where is National Organization for Women, NOW?

Why are greedy criminal doctors allowed to exploit women by stuffing them with carcinogenic implants that poison them later in life??

I call on US Dept of Agriculture and American Medical Association to do the right thing and look into this serious issue, because we all depend on breasts when we are born, as source of milk and if we keep poisoning them, the whole life and the world would be affected. wppm.org
