Book Projects

Our Bodies, Ourselves is our core vehicle for educating women about health, sexuality and reproduction. The eighth edition of this classic bestseller, published in 2005, offers readers trustworthy, up-to-date information on a range of issues, from body image to birth control. This edition includes new photographs and stories throughout and a companion website with additional, updated material.

While producing the latest edition of Our Bodies, Ourselves, the editorial team realized that several topics covered in a chapter or two were ripe for more in-depth treatment. We decided to create a series of books that delve more deeply into specific women's health topics.

Our first book, Our Bodies, Ourselves: Menopause, was published by Simon & Schuster in October 2006. The second book, Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth has just been published (March 2008). Like Our Bodies, Ourselves, our new books combine trustworthy medical information, women's personal stories, and thoughtful analyses of the social, cultural, and political forces that affect women's health.

We also recently finished a project, in partnership with Teen Voices, on mental health for adolescent girls.  Under the guidance of OBOS mentors, the teens created a series of articles, stories, poems, and art that examine emotional and mental health. The materials include real girls’ experiences along with reliable, up-to-date information about mental health. Check it out!
