Let's Talk About Sex - Starting Tomorrow

Well, feel free to start today, of course … We’re referring to the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective second national conference, titled “Let’s Talk About Sex” — a four day affair that runs from May 31-June 3 in Chicago.
This year also marks the 10th anniversary celebration. Here’s the list of workshops and the full agenda (PDF).

Since the right to have sex is a topic rarely discussed when addressing reproductive health and rights issues, SisterSong believes that sexual prohibitions are not only promoted by moral conservatives in this country, but also by reproductive rights advocates who fail to promote a sex-positive culture.
We believe that sex for pro-creation or sexual pleasure is a human right, and we are striving to create a pro-sex space for the pro-choice movement.
This four-day conference will include workshops and plenaries on topics such as birth control, senior sexuality, STDs, microbicides, gynecological health and wellness, erotica, militarism, and more, all through a reproductive justice lens. There will also be a special track of workshops designed by and for young women and teens.
The things is it seems whenever people are talking about sex, its either to make it a negative (To pass judgment on others) or to market something. THere is very little discussion about sex as fun.
Feminist for fornication
This is so refreshing! There needs to be more conversation about sexuality in American society. I hope that the next step is reaching out to the people who wouldn’t normally attend a conference on sexuality. This would involve having workshops for students about healthy sexuality. If the Bush administration won’t provide real sex education in schools then students need to learn it from somewhere else.
