Cochrane Consumer Network: Health Reviews: Systematic reviews that attempt to identify, appraise and synthesize all the scientific evidence on a specific health issue. Their Plain Language Summaries are designed to help people understand and interpret research findings.

Hesperian Health Guides by Language: Easy-to-read guides, available in over 80 languages, that provide information and educational tools to help people take greater control over their health. Also has apps on safe abortion, family planning, safe birth, and pregnancy.

Medline Plus: Easy to understand, free of advertising health information, in both English and Spanish, from the National Library of Medicine.

National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine: One of the centers of the National Institutes of Health, the NCCAM reviews the safety and effectiveness of complementary and integrative health practices for specific medical concerns.

UpToDate Patient Resources: Women’s Health: Summarizes the best and current research on a range of women’s health topics. Be sure to check out articles under “The Basics” heading as well as the ones under “Beyond the Basics.”

Where Women Have No Doctor: A Health Guide for Women: Excellent basic guide to health care, designed to help women understand their bodies across the lifespan. Available in Spanish, French, Kisahili, Filipino and Haitian Creole.
