Support for Women Who are Considering or Have Had an Abortion
These resources provide support to women who are considering or have had an abortion, and to their partners, families and friends.
- Backline (1-888-493-0092) offers support to women and loved ones around all aspects of pregnancy and decision making about abortion, adoption and parenting. It provides nonjudgmental and confidential options counseling and support before and after abortion.Hours: Monday to Thursday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. PST; Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PST.
- Pregnancy Options offers resources to help pregnant women make the right decision for themselves, whether it’s abortion, parenting or adoption. Free downloads include the “Pregnancy Options Workbook” and “A Guide to Emotional and Spiritual Resolution After an Abortion.”
- Exhale (1-866-4 EXHALE / 1-866-439-4253) is an after-abortion counseling talk line. It provides support to women who have had abortions, as well as to partners, friends and family. All calls are confidential, and the cultural, social and religious beliefs of all callers are respected. Hours: Monday to Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. PST; Saturday to Sunday noon to 10 p.m. PST.
- Ending a Wanted Pregnancy provides support and solace to women and men who terminate a pregnancy after a serious or fatal prenatal diagnosis or because of a maternal health problem. The site includes articles on dealing with grief, shared stories, and parent-to-parent support.
