We Need to Talk About the LGBTQ+ Menopause Experience

Mainstream information on aging often leaves out the experiences of LGBTQ+ people, especially when it comes to menopause. This article examines data from the UK and shares stories from LGBTQ+ people who have gone through menopause.

“Menopause conversations are often had in a way that’s heteronormative – assuming that being straight is default. When symptoms can directly impact relationships and intimacy, this can exclude those in same-sex relationships from receiving support that’s right for them.”
