Barbara Fildes MS, CNM, FACNM

Barbara Fildes practiced midwifery for 30 years in urban, suburban and rural settings. Midwifery was a natural extension of her nursing and advocacy work with women and families that began in the 1970s.

She has served as a division director at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

She has been active in the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) and Northern New England Perinatal Quality Improvement Networks (NNEPQIN), pioneering financially sustainable, collaborative practice models as a cornerstone for health care improvements.

Since retiring from clinical practice, she has managed projects in patient safety, quality improvement, risk reduction, and loss prevention. Working with Our Bodies Ourselves has been a career highlight.
