Marlene Gerber Fried is a longtime activist and scholar.
She was the founding president and is current board member of the National Network of Abortion Funds and the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts. She works internationally with the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights on an international abortion access advocacy project.
Marlene is the faculty director of the Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program (CLPP) at Hampshire College, an organization dedicated to reproductive rights education, activism and leadership development. In 2010-2011, she served as the interim president of Hampshire College.
Her scholarship, teaching and public speaking is focused primarily on abortion rights and access and reproductive justice. She edited “From Abortion Rights to Reproductive Freedom: Transforming A Movement,” and co-authored with Jael Silliman, Loretta Ross and Elena Gutiérrez “Undivided Rights: Women of Color Organize for Reproductive Justice” (2004).
