It’s a myth that sexual desire fades as a natural and irreversible part of aging. In our youth-oriented culture, older women are viewed as sexless. But the need for intimacy is ageless. While we may have to accommodate to physical changes and/or chronic health issues, sexuality is a natural part of aging, contributing to our health and vitality. Sexuality, unlike fertility, can continue throughout our lives if we expand notions about sex and sensual pleasure. In this section, we provide materials that critique ageist assumptions about older adults and sex and provide a (more) feminist perspective.
