Cynthia A. Gómez

Cynthia A. Gómez is founding director of the Health Equity Institute at San Francisco State University, an organization dedicated to innovative community-science partnerships to address health disparities amongst the most disenfranchised.

She previously served as co-director of the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at UCSF. Her HIV-related work focuses on gender, culture and sexual health, and on the development of prevention interventions for marginalized/vulnerable populations. She has devoted herself to creating models of efficient and meaningful translation of science into community practice.

Cynthia has been a health policy advisor for over 20 years. She was appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS under both President Clinton and President Bush; served on multiple federal advisory committees; and has served on several boards, including Guttmacher Institute, Public Responsibility in Medicine & Research, Planned Parenthood Shasta Pacific, and the California Breast Cancer Research Council.
